casals-cerveró house

the proposal take the maximum advantage possible of the volume of the building that currently contains the house, over the two floors, rationalizing the internal distribution and consequently, the order of the windows of the facade. also, it is re-roofed in order to solve once and for all the existing problems of water ingress. the proportion of new windows and the new pitched roof brings the building closer to the traditional language of the village.

the existing building is attached to a new autonomous wall enclosure that encloses the garden and contains a covered zone for protection that in turn, functions as a store. this wall parts in the middle, creating an entry axis. to the side are located the doors, which coincide in width with the entrance opening to the building, through the old garage, through which the house opens onto the garden.

functional operation

the upper floor is distributed in a more rational way. it contains the bedrooms and the studio, the most private areas of the house. these spaces are orientated towards the garden to achieve intimacy. the band of services (cupboards, toilets...), which also contains the stair, are located at the street side.

the access from carrer la bassa becomes a secondary access that will function very well for receiving students to the studio (the owner is a private teacher), without having to travel through the whole house. the principal access is through carrer lluís companys, crossing under the garage roof and walking through the garden.

the ground floor functions as one space open to the garden through a grand opening. with different ceiling heights, three distinct areas are defined: a more sheltered part, related to the fire place and a part more open to the exterior with a higher ceiling. the area of the kitchen, the more sheltered part, can be isolated from the rest of the room with a movable partition. to the back of the ground floor, like the upper floor, are found the services: a toilet, a larder and one of the washing machines.
